We're on our way!

And now the adventure begins!

On Monday we drove to the Flying J truck stop in London Ont. to meet up with Peggi and John McDonald. We dry camped there that night. Man was it cold! John ran his generator for a while in the evening and morning and graciously allowed us to plug into his RV so we could run our furnace. Thank God for that! It went down to -1 celcius that night. Thanks to John and Peggi, we had heat before we went to bed and when we got up. It's a good thing we have a good down comforter on our bed though, 'cause it got real cold during the night.

We left the Flying J at 8:00am on Tuesday morning. About 45 minutes into the drive Peggi phoned to inform us that they had developed an air compressor problem and had no suspension! They had to get it fixed and would be running a day late. We made the decision to head for warmer weather and then stay somewhere for an extra day to wait up for them. Crossing the border was a breeze. We handed the guy our passports, assured him we had no citrus fruit on board, and were on our way. We were gonna wait at a really nice park just outside of Dallas, Texas, but when I called from Arkadelphia, Arkansas, the park had no vacancies for Friday night. I want to see around San Antonio a little, so we're gonna take 2 days there and wait for Peggi and John. The stop in Arkadelphia was not intentional. We were supposed to be staying at a park in Little Rock, Arkansas, but after following both the directions in the Trailer Life book and our gps, when we got to the park, there it was, gone! A big shopping mall was in it's place. That's fun with a 30 foot trailer hanging off the back of your truck. So we selected the next park down the road. That's how we ended up in Arkadelphia. Now for our rolling weather report!

We drove to Pendleton, Indiana the first day. The weather didn't warm up much (highs in the low 40s (6 to 8 in celcius). We were in a nice park with hookups though, so we had our furnace and our electric space heater. We left there and drove to Sikeston, Missouri the next day. Our daytime highs got into the low 50s (around 10 c.), but the nights went down about 40 (6 c.). The third day things started to improve. We went to Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The afternoon temp. got to 63 (13 c.), and it only dropped to 50 (10 c.). Ahhhh, but the fourth day (today) we are just north of Waco, Texas. The high here was 82 (28 c.) and it's only gonna go down to 60 (15 c.) tonight. This is why we're doing this huge drive. Mary even put our winter coats away today, and I was able to wear one of my famous flowered shirts to dinner!

Watching the clock run backwards on the foliage has been neat, as well as the changing geography. Things just get greener the further south you go! The route we chose helped us avoid the mountains and other super hilly country. Lots of rolling hills, etc. We drove by Memphis, Tennessee, crossed over the mighty Mississippi river and had miles and miles of prairie-flat road. Just not as bald as the prairies. Now we're back into the rolling hills of Texas, south of Dallas. Tomorrow we get to San Antonio where we're gonna stay for two days, and then it's just one more day to Alamo, Texas. It'll be good to stop for a while after all this steady driving.

Sorry there's no pics, but we've been to darned busy driving! I'll make up for it once we're stopped.

Long time, no write.

Well, here it is, Thanksgiving Day! This is gonna be a good day. Kristi and Phil (and James) invited us over to their place for Thanksgiving dinner. They also invited Tim and Ally. And (surprise, surprise) they invited Dave over. It should be an excellent day.

Not much has been happening to us, therefore no entries to the blog. A couple of weeks ago my back screwed up on me again. Always said I'd never let a chiropractor touch me. Well, when it hurts enough and you're running on a time limit, you might change your mind. I went and he helped (also hurt, but that's another story). Anyhow, I'm on the mend so we should be good to go.

We leave in two weeks today. Man, time flies! We're getting so excited! It's gonna be a great trip down and a great winter! At the rate the stock market keeps screwing up, we may come home flat broke, but............I guess that's the chance you take.

That's about it for now. The park we're at in Guelph doesn't have internet, so it's difficult to update the blog, get email, or any of the inet things we take for granted. Once we get rolling, we should have fairly regular access to the internet and the park we're staying in in Texas definately has wifi, so I should be able to bore ya's all regularily. Later guys!
