Yesterday we toured the USS Lexington. It's a WWII aircraft carrier. It was commissioned in 1943 and finally decommissioned in 1991. Man, they last a long time! Now it's a floating museum. It's also a work in progress! They're still fixing and upgrading the ship and adding displays to it.
Lots of planes on board. When you board the ship you are initially in the main hanger area. This is where they show some of the WWII planes that were originally on the ship. Also, displays of different engines, etc.
Then it was up to the flight deck. Mary sorta walked into this pic. It's the back, and front of an F-14. They don't make 'em any more! This is #001 of the Blue Angels planes. With foldup wings and whatnot they could make 'em pretty small, therefore cramming more planes onto the ship. All of the planes on board served on the Lexington during her life. Even the Huey Cobra was stationed on the Lexington for a while.
When at sea, nothing is allowed to get close to an aircraft carrier, so they were reasonably well armed. Gun batteries on both sides. It carried several mines etc. unfortunately, most of the pics from inside the ship really didn't turn out too well. All in all it was an interesting afternoon. So with a goodbye wave to the bridge We headed home for the day. Tomorrow we're going to the Texas State Aquarium. See ya's!

Great pics! Where are you now? When do you expect to arrive back "home"? We only have 2 more sleeps here. Hard to believe the time has flown by. Have a safe journey back.
