Moncton and "The Rocks"

We had a marvelous visit with dad and Jean in Moncton. We probably gained 5lb each. We went up to Miramichi with dad and Jean for their Irish festival. We went to the Legion there and had a wonderful corned beef and cabbage lunch, then drove around Miramichi to see what it looks like without 10ft snowbanks. It's really nice. Then onto the community center where they were doing their "Irish" thing. Listened to some entertainment, fiddlers, dancers, and guitar. We were just a tad :o( ticked 'cause they weren't selling beer until 6pm! Weird, but I guess that's what their license would only allow.

Thursday we left and headed to Albert County and the Hopewell Rocks. The campsite here is nice, woody, and we are right on a lake. Damn they have big bugs here! Yesterday we toured the backroads to Alma stopping at Cape Enrage. It was soooooooo foggy up there!! We did take the steps down to the shore (they replaced the steps and Mary was willing to use them) this time and took a few pictures too. Even in the fog it's a beautiful place. While we were walking around Alma we noticed that one of the fishing/lobster boats had caught a shark and had it hanging off the back of the boat (headless) (yuck). While driving around Albert County Mary saw and wanted to stop at an old covered bridge. She keeps looking for ghosts. How come whenever I take a picture for her, the only ghost I can find is...............her?
Today we are doing laundry, and just taking it easy. Tomorrow we're going for a Hodgepodge at Dad and Moms. After that we're not sure. We're supposed to be leaving here on Thursday but we're not sure whether we're going over to St. Martins to spend a day or so on the Fundy Trail, or whether we're going to head into Nova Scotia. Decisions, decisions.

Woodstock

Well, here we are again! We left Quebec and headed for Moncton. We decided that to drive all the way from Quebec to Moncton in one shot was too much, so we stopped in Woodstock. I think we're gonna stop there for a couple of days on the way back from N. B. It's kinda a cool place. We had a very picturesque campsite right on the St. John river. In the evening the moon came out and Rod thought he'd try to take a night shot. It worked out kinda neat. It woulda been better if I coulda got the guy on the boat to sit still long enough for the pic, but...Hey we didn't know the guy. Then we drove to Moncton. Haven't taken any pictures here, but we've done lots of visiting! We went to Pizza Delight to celebrate Weldon and Tressa's 50th wedding anniversary. Everyone had a good time. It was raining cats & dogs this morning, so we thought we'd have a quiet day at home and "knock knock", dad and Jean showed up here at the trailer. We're outta here on Thursday and heading for a park over at the Rocks. Sorts half way between Moncton and Funday Park. It's right on the bay, so it should be a nice park. We'll see if there are any pictures there.

Yesterday we went to Old Quebec City. We are staying on the south side of the St. Lawrence river, so drove into Levis (pronounced Leevee) and took the ferry directly to Old Quebec City.It rained last night. The weather was supposed to clear up by noon, but for now we wanted to beat the weather to Quebec. We did it! A few drops on the ferry and then nothing more. The old part of the city is incredible. Old, old buildings and very narrow streets.

The old city is incredibly hilly with horrendously steep roads etc. I keep trying to picture someone learning how to drive with a standard transmission. Clutch repair must have been a huge business in the 50's and 60's. We went up to the citadel at the top of the cliffs overlooking the city. From where the ferry docks to the citadel is a climb of 182 metres. Why do we keep looking for hills and stairs? But the view from up there was pretty impressive. With Quebec being 400 years old and all, Mary thought it'd be a great place to go ghost hunting, but all I found was-----Mary! There's lots of artwork and music throughout the city. We stopped and listened to a symphony orchestra for a bit and saw this awesome mural painted on the side of one of the buildings.

Anyhow, we're leaving Quebec tomorrow and heading for Moncton. We figure we'll take a couple of days to get there. It'd be a big drive to do all at once and our reservations at Camper City isn't until Thurday anyway, so there's no hurry.

Well we're in Quebec (Quebec City). We went to Sept Chutes Gorge just outside Ste. Anne. It was cool and huge. It's a series of 7 (sept) waterfalls (chutes) down a gorge. The info center is at #5. We walked/climbed to the top of the gorge. And back down.
They warned us that the climb to and from the bottom was
gonna be huge, and they weren't kidding. This is a pic of half of the stairs down! We finally made it to the bottom. Then you follow a trail back up to the info center. the top 5 chutes drop 200 ft., and the last two chutes drop the other 400 ft. But we made it, and it was worth the view. As per usual in nature pics, the don't do it justice.

Then because we're suckers for punishment we went to Canyone Ste. Anne. Another friggin' gorge to climb through. It was really cool too though. 3 suspended bridges and several platforms hanging out over the canyon. We really enjoyed it, but to get to the very bottom of the canyon they warn you that it's 187 steps to the bottom (and another 187 steps back up. And then you climb back to the top of the canyon from where we were. We wimped out as we were bushed from the Sept Chutes climb. Tomorrow we're going into Old Quebec City. Really looking forward to that!

Ottawa

Well, we have completed our tour of Ottawa. We have been here a week now and have been on a tour of the Parliment buildings. It was interesting to see the architecture. We went up in the tower and had a good view of the city.

We spent the day at the "Museum of Civilization" There is so much to see here in Ottawa. There is NO where to park so we have learned to use the transit system and it works well (Rod got a transit map) . The system uses its own highway so we were able to take it from the outskirts close to our campground right to downtown although the walk to the museum was a challenge until we discovered the bus back :o)

The aviation museum was our next stop. Lots of planes to see, and unfortunately, we didn't find out until too late in the day we missed seeing the "North Star". It is supposed to be the only one left and it was being worked on in another hanger that we didn't know we would have been able to get into.

Our last stop was the War Museum. It was filled with the Canadian history of war exibits and presentations.

Tomorrow is a day of laundry and cleaning and we are heading to Quebec city on Friday. We don't know if there will be internet access there, so it may be awhile before I can add to this. I will update when I can.... bye for now.....

Kingston On

We visited Fort Henry and I took this picture of the "haunted" kitchen. If ever you go it is a lot more interesting if you take the scheduled tour. There were cannon races, and music to add to the good time.
Again our campsite was right on the river.

adding pictures

Here are a few pictures of the view of our site in Peterborough. The sunsets were beautiful. boating and fishing were popular in this spot and we met a couple that wanted to take us waterskiing !! Can you imagine us doing that?? When I figure out how to do albums for those interested in seeing more pics I will post them.

This is a pic of Theresa and my visit with our brother John before we left.

Finally on our way

Campsites like this

Finally on our way

Hi Everyone!! Well, we finally got everything at home completed and have been happily camping our way to the east coast. We had a great success with campground sites so far. Lots of water, greenery etc. Just have to figure out how to incorporate pictures. Peterborough was our first stop and I got some geneolgy stuff. Kingston was nice, saw the museum, and Fort Henry. Tim, I got to take pics of where Creepy Canada said all the ghosts are!!
Rod and I have taken up bike riding already so maybe by the time you all see us again we might even be fit!! Anyhow going to see how this test works. Take care and talk to you all soon :o)
